I don't like to use the blog as a spot to brag, but I have to share this email that Mike received. A bit of background information: another university faculty member was debating on whether or not to send her son (also named Henry) to IC, our kids' school. Mike gave her some thoughts and shared with her our experiences with the school. The family ultimately decided to send their Henry to IC and he started last week. She sent an email to Mike this weekend:
I want to thank you so much for taking the time, a couple of weeks ago, to chat with me about I.C. As you may have heard, we did decide to move our son Henry to I.C. He had his first day last Wednesday...and to our great surprise, he loved it. We expected that he'd come to love his new school, but we figured that the first few days would be difficult. Not so. He came home excited about his new teacher, about the new kids he'd me and REALLY excited about all that the was learning. On Thursday and Friday when we asked him "How was school?" (that routine parental question), he said, "GREAT!" This is a big, positive change. Wow.
I am so grateful for your input as we were struggling over what to do. I also want to thank your son, Henry, for being so kind to our Henry this past week. Our Henry said that your Henry was one of the nicest kids in the whole school...Thanks to him for being such a good person and a good friend.
This - that my son is a good person who cares for others - is all that matters to me. My Henry could go on to be valedictorian, star of his college football team, or whatever but THIS is what I will always be most proud of.
