Well, we've been busy the past week with home inspections (both the Omaha and the Maine house), inspection contingencies, repairs, radon, etc. The good news is that now everything has worked out fine and we are able to relax a bit, but earlier in the week I was ready to pull my hair out. First, the Maine house came back with elevated radon levels so we asked the sellers to fix that ($1200). Well, Mr. Seller didn't like that idea and said no, he's already taking a loss on the house, no, no, no. Then we threatened to pull out of the deal. Then Mr. Seller came around. On the Omaha end, I waited with anticipation for our inspection report to come back, praying that nothing big came up because I don't think I could have handled a major repair issue. Thankfully all that was on there was some minor fixes, and we were able (with the help of my dad) to take care of that all on Saturday. So that is a relief!
I made a book for Hank about the move that I have been reading to him. It's a little narrative about what is going to happen, complete with really bad stick people drawings by yours truly. Example: I drew a really horrible picture of an airplane with the narrative "Hank, Mommy, Georgie, and Mimi will get on an airplane and fly to Maine." Mike said, "If you're going on an airplane, why did you draw a picture of a shark?" Hey, I never claimed to be Picasso and besides, Hank knew what it was and that's all that counts, right? The book also has pictures of the new house, but I don't think Hank really understands what "moving" is. He walks around our house saying things like, "And we'll take my toys? And my trains? And the kitchen? And these walls?" Poor kid. We've been trying to pump him up, saying things like "Hank, the new house is really neat! It has a really big yard! And your room will be big! And the kitchen will be bigger! Don't you want a new house?" And he replies, "I like this house." He is not making this easy.
So that's where we stand right now. Things are falling into place and we're able to relax a bit more and enjoy our last few weeks in the big O.

I bet your plane looks just great.
I bet you draw better planes than my second and third graders... I always have to use the phrase "Tell me about your drawing" and resist saying "Ummm, what is it?"
