Henry's first soccer game of the season was yesterday. He's on the Crickets and they played the Beetles. I made a comment about the teams being both insects and music groups and the other parents looked at me like I was crazy. I am once again a team parent, which means that I coordinate the snack signup, which happens to be the most important part of the soccer experience so the stakes are high. Henry did well at the game, he still sees soccer as a purely social event so he has to be reminded every once in awhile to at least TRY to act interested in going after the ball. Thankfully, most of the kids on his team are more about having fun than scoring goals so he fits right in. At the end of the game (which the poor Crickets would have lost handily if one kept score at this age) the Crickets did a little dogpile on the middle of the field. Instigated by Henry, of course.
Work is going okay. I am pretty tired. Not that work itself is hard or exhausting. It's the getting ready for work part that is exhausting. I'm used to waltzing out to the bus stop each morning, coffee cup in hand, hair unbrushed, makeup nonexistent, wearing flip flops and my brain only half-turned on. Now I have to be presentable (makeup, hair looking decent, teeth brushed, outfit somewhat coordinated) AND have all the other things (lunch made, homework in backpack, kids dressed, breakfast served, etc.) done by 7:30am. Once I get to work my day actually slows down a bit and at least I get to sit down for awhile. I have to say I am looking forward to November 30 (the end of this maternity leave that I'm covering) though. I don't know how all you full-time working mommies do it.
Tomorrow I start teaching - the class runs from 6-9pm which is a bit scary since I'm usually in my jammies in front of the TV with my brain turned off at 8pm. Yikes.
The boys are both liking school. Henry's teacher told me that on the first day of school he asked her, "Do you give hugs?" Georgie has already got the college girls that are doing their practicums at the university preschool wrapped around his finger. I was hoping that the teachers would not be so enamored with him at this preschool and more discipline would take place, but it looks like that is not going to happen. Sigh.

I would not count on the discipline from college girls. When I was a practicum student, I would have done the same with a boy like George!

I DON'T do it...that's how this full-time working mommy does it. Wish I had time to read books like you...and keep up with my blog (which hasn't been updated in a year!). :-)
