This past weekend was just perfect. The it was one of those idyllic fall weekends, filled with blue skies, crisp weather, leaves at peak color, football, chili, leaf pile making, and apple picking. I took the kids out to a different apple orchard on Sunday where they each picked a half peck.
Then yesterday I got home from work and my babysitter said, "Today when I picked George up from school, Miss Amber asked me if he eats breakfast at home."
"Well," I said, "most of the time he does, but sometimes he is just not that hungry in the mornings. I always set it out for him though." The sitter then proceeded to tell me that the teacher was a little concerned because George is VERY hungry when they serve breakfast at school, so much so that he always takes 2nd helpings and actually most of the time takes 3rd helpings and then the other kids don't have enough to eat. And then, after consuming his 3rd helping on Monday, he starting picking crumbs off the floor and eating them.
I just stood there COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY MORTIFIED. Eating crumbs off the floor? I am sure that the teacher and school staff think that we are completely starving our child. Poor, deprived little Georgie.
So this morning at drop-off Mike talked to Miss Amber about the breakfast situation. "Maybe you can send a snack with him to school," she suggested. In other words, feed your kid so he doesn't eat all the food. Apparently though she was really just concerned that they had run out of food and he asked for more and she "didn't want to deny him his basic needs."
Sigh.

Tell Georgie's teacher that his Mimi will send her a check for food! :-)
Maybe it's poor little hungry Georgie eating the crumbs on the floor at home and not Rex. :-)
I love this.
