On Wednesday I took the boys to Mount Desert Island (home of Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park) for a little daytrip. A friend of mine had a vacation condo in Southwest Harbor for the week and invited us down to hang out. The weather was spectacular and we had nothing else better to do so I decided to make the trek. We played at the condo's playground for awhile and then headed up the road to Echo Lake Beach. Hank had a great time throwing sticks, rocks, and various other things into the lake while Georgie enjoyed crawling through the sand. (His army crawl looks even more hysterical in the sand - I should have dressed him in camo to complete the look). Anyway, we had a picnic at the beach and enjoyed the warm sunshine. On the way back home we stopped at a general store in some little town on MDI for some ice cream. (For those of you who have not been to Maine, there is ice cream EVERYWHERE. It is a Weight Watchers nightmare!) The only bad part about the day was that Georgie had to have both of his naps in the car and he didn't sleep well, so on Wednesday night he was up from 2-4am being very crabby and restless. So I've learned my lesson: for future daytrips we are going to try to make sure he gets at least one of his naps at home. Some things you just gotta learn the hard way. Next week is spring break, so if the weather is nice I think I might make another trip to MDI while the crowds are still thin.
