On Saturday morning Mike took Hank to the Kenduskeag Stream canoe race, which is an annual event marking the start of spring. There are some teams that are die-hard racers and go all-out, and other teams dress up in silly costumes and just have a good time. Hank loved watching the canoes but was quite disturbed when they would tip once they went over the falls (the die-hards portage the falls, while the just-having-fun guys give the crowd some excitement by going right over them).
In the afternoon all 4 of us went to Fields Pond for a hike. Hank did a great job keeping us on the trail by looking for the blue blazes. He was most concerned with when we were going to stop and eat a snack. Georgie chilled out in the baby backpack, and I tried to keep my anxiety in check while we crossed streams and manuevered down the hills, some of which were still slippery with wet leaves. It was really a beautiful hike though and we all had a good time. I felt kind of like Bill Bryson, and Hank was like Katz (loudly yelling through the woods at the wildlife, constantly asking when we were going to eat, etc.)
