We had hoped to be a bit further along today, but due to a unexpectedly long closing this morning, we got started about 2 hours late. So, here we are, day 1, already behind schedule. We were hoping to do four 6-hour days in the car, but looks like we're going to have to have one 8-hour day in there to catch up.
The closing went fine, although yesterday the movers put a nice big scrape into the wall, so there was all kinds of drama in the last 24 hours, and I won't get into details but it's pretty much taken care of now. Our main concern was just closing the deal and we did that. So there's going to be some more work on our end (filing a claim with the movers, etc.) but Superagent Jan is taking charge. As one of my fave radio personalities, Tony Kornheiser, would say, "she's gettin' it done." We had to put $500 in an escrow account to ease the buyers' concerns that they would end up getting stuck with the repair bill, but we'll get that back when the repair gets underway. But the take-home message is that we closed, we got our check, and we are now officially homeless until we close on the 80's Explosion House in Eau Claire on Tuesday.
We're staying at a great hotel right now, the Residence Inn by Marriott, which is AWESOME. We have a 2-bedroom suite, and I tell you, this is the way to travel with kids. Mike and I can actually watch some TV and (gasp!) talk to each other after the boys go to bed. (You know, instead of huddling together in the bathroom, watching a movie on the laptop or reading a book by flashlight in the corner like we usually do in hotel rooms after 8pm). Hank and Georgie both did great in the car today, so we're hopeful for a good day tomorrow.
Oh- funny notes from Hank in the car (I had Hank today, Mike had Georgie).
Seeing lots of traffic near Boston, but going in the opposite direction from us, thank God, Hank shouts out, "Wow, look at all that traffic! That is some big, giant, traffic!"
After stopping for a break, Hank informs me, "I'm going to sit in the front seat with you now." I reply, "Nope." Hank whines, "Why not?"
ME - "You aren't big enough yet. You have to be 6 years old" (Not sure what actual age/weight is)
HANK - oh.
ME- And how old are you?
HANK - (deadpans) I'm 6.

Sounds like a lot is going on with you guys! That's a lot of time in the car, it's nice that you can divide and conquer. We stayed in a Residence Inn in St. Louis and, I agree, it is definitely the way to go. Good luck on the rest of your journey
Happy Birthday Ang!!!
Love,
Lisa
