Last night was the Science Fair at Henry's school. Last year Mike took him and when he walked around and saw the other kids' displays he was so disappointed that he didn't do one. (To be fair, there were only a couple of kindergarten students that did projects last year, and they both partnered with an older sibling). Anyway, Henry had been talking about what he was going to do for an entire year. So when we got the information about a month ago, Mike and Henry headed out to Menards and purchased pots and seeds for his experiment. His experiment was "Where do plants grow best?" He planted bean seeds in 5 pots and placed them in the living room window, kitchen window, basement window, his bedroom, and Mike's closet. His hypothesis was that the living room window would grow the best and Mike's closet would grow the worst. In actuality, the living room window did not grow at all (too cold! perhaps this is a sign that we need better windows...) and the one in his room grew the best, probably because it was both warm and sunny.
Mike and I could not have been prouder of him - he was so excited about collecting his data, entering it in the computer, taking care of the plants, and making his poster. He also did an awesome job at standing in front of his display at the fair and talking to all the people who stopped by. I could tell Henry was really proud of it as well. He was one of only a handful of first graders that did projects this year and all of the teachers made a big deal about it. I feel so fortunate that he goes to this school - they are so supportive and warm and kind. The other parents were so awesome as well, stopping by each student's display and listening as the students talked about what they had done.
