A Walmart tale

On Friday the boys and I had the day off from school. We had some shopping to do for the weekend, and our first stop was Sam's Club. We got what we needed there (in addition to the relentless attempts at upselling their Evalues club and credit card that I am always subjected to) and then the plan was to head to Walmart to finish up since it is right next to Sam's.

We unloaded our Sam's stuff into the car and decided to drive over to Walmart since it's somewhat of a dangerous walk through the parking lot from one store to the other, what with the random traffic patterns and lack of consistency from one lot to the other. As I was trolling the parking lot for a space, we noticed droves and droves of, ahem, sketchy looking people going into Walmart. Now, I am not a Walmart snob. I don't like Walmart, but I'm not above going there regularly to score a good deal. I can deal with the barefoot children running around, the lack of open check-out lanes, the rude and clueless employees.  I know it's a trade off for the low prices, and it's a trade off I'm willing to accept on a semi-regular basis. But this time, I just broke as I saw the hoard of people headed in there. Henry actually said, and I quote, "Are these people from the jail?" At that point I still could not find a parking spot so I said "screw it!" and headed over to Target. And I paid more, no doubt, for all of my stuff at Target but it was such a lovely shopping experience that I didn't feel a bit bad about it when my order was rang up.

When we got home and Mike saw the Target bags he said, "I thought you were going to Walmart?"
I said, "It was Crazy Dirtbag Day at Walmart today."
Mike paused and said, "Isn't every day Crazy Dirtbag Day at Walmart?"
I said, "Yes, but this time I think it was official."

I went back to Walmart this morning at 8:30am to get some EB candy for tomorrow. The crazy dirtbags must not get up that early, because it was a decent shopping experience with normal people both shopping and working there. Well, except for the one guy who was walking around like he was still drunk from the night before. But there's your take-away message folks: go to Walmart before 9am, and you are good to go.
**One of these days I'll write about some of my other horrifying Walmart experiences, but this is enough ranting for today.

I can't do it. I just can't. I've been into the Eau Claire Wal-Mart three times. Once because I signed up to buy a needy family a Wal-Mart gift card, once because I needed thread at 1:30 in the morning, and once because I wanted to see if I really would save much (I did) on my grocery bill. But I just can't do it. Maybe I should just try going earlier in the day (but not 1:30 early)
