It's mauve-alous dahling, simply mauve-alous!

Okay, so here are the pics of the worst parts of the house, where the most gratuitous usage of mauve ceramic tile occurs. Presenting, (drum roll please), the master bath jacuzzi!

And not to be left out, the kitchen countertops!

So that's the worst of it - the good news is, it's all perfectly functional, just ugly. But do not fret my little doves, it will be taken care of soon. The new flooring (entire house, minus the kid pit) will go in the end of this month, and the painters (pretty much entire house) will be here in October. We just have decisions to make as far as the kitchen goes - do we want to completely gut it and start over, or just do a facelift? Right now, we are leaning toward refacing the cabinets and putting in new counters/sink/lighting/appliances. The insides of the cabinets are in excellent shape and the layout of the kitchen is fine, so it seems wasteful to tear it all out and completely start new. We already bought a new gas range that will go in next week, after getting used to the gas range in Maine the electric 1989 Magic Chef just isn't cutting it.

So that's where we're at with the house remodel - the house itself is working out well. The neighbors are really friendly and we are super close to the university. We are already driving so much less than we ever did in Maine or Omaha. I miss a lot about the old house, mainly the beauty and grandness of it, but I think we are going to be grateful in the winter when we are not heating a 2 1/2 story foyer we never used. And soon, hopefully, this house will be pretty too. It's a trade-off; if you want to be in-town and close to the university, you're not going to get one of those new, airier houses in the 'burbs. And for us, it was worth the sacrifice of a new house to be closer to everything. Mike can walk or bike to work if he wants, and we are minutes away from everything else.

Hank has "signing day" at his school tomorrow, and then offically starts on Wednesday. I think he's actually excited about it. We visited the school last week and his teachers seem really nice, so I'm hopeful for a smooth transition.
Oh, and here are a couple pics of the outside of the house! They were taken back when we bought it in June, but it looks the same.

No 3-car garage (sniff, sniff), so Mike will have to find somewhere else to put that boat he thinks he's getting soon.

Okay...I must agree the colors are scary! Glad you're getting them fixed! The house looks great from the outside though!!

I love it! I can just picture the wonderful love you will give your new home! You're right...it's a trade off to live in a busier area. I'm guessing you'll be really glad you did it in the long run! :) Mary

I LOVE the pic of the master bath ;-) Think of all the time that went into tiling all those fabulous mauve tiles! And are the cabinets actually a shade of pink too, or are they simply radiating the countertops? Your pics put a smile on my face! Good Luck with the remodel- it will all be worth it in the end!

Oh, you know in 1989 the mauve ceramic tile jacuzzi was QUITE the deal. The kitchen cabinets are not a shade of pink, I believe they are made of oak and a light, white-washed stain was applied to them. Kind of a blondish type of color. The pink countertops just overtake EVERYTHING around them. The sellers (the original owners of the house) had three boys, so my mom thinks it was Mrs. Seller's way of getting some pink into her life.
