Homework time

George doing his homework - he complained that this was too easy. Afterwards I asked Mike (who usually makes his "homework" for him) and he said that George is up to counting and matching in the teens. Excuuuse me.
Henry reading one of his take-home books. He is on a guided reading level O. That is apparently mid-fourth grade level. His conferences were, as always, glowing. I do not know who this child is that they talk about, but I wish he would show up at our house once in awhile. :)

For a "good student", Henry sure gives us a lot of crap about doing his homework. His teacher has said repeatedly that the homework should not take longer than 10 minutes each night, but it usually takes me 10 minutes just to get him to sit down and do it. He argues, whines, hides, etc. It's insane the amount of cajoling I have to do each night to get him to do it. And it's usually something ridiculously simple, like a few math problems. Once I get Henry to sit down and do it, it takes him about TWO MINUTES to complete. Aaaargh. So tonight Mike worked late and I didn't feel like battling so I dug out a bag of Hershey's kisses and doled them out as rewards as homework was completed. Henry did EXTRA credit, and George was begging for more homework. I know, I know, I shouldn't be rewarding my kids with edibles but let me tell you, we were ALL much happier.

We are not above bribery here in the Hoekzema house either!
