George LOVES the Wii. I mean, is absolutely obsessed with it. Every day when he gets home from preschool he begs to play. I let him play for an hour, which I think is a lot, and then I make him turn it off and go play. The thing is that he is actually extremely good at many of the games on Wii Sports. For instance, no one can touch him at the Swordplay game - he totally beats all of us at that. His other favorites are Bowling and table tennis. But he's always been a total gamer. Whenever we go to a restaurant with a video game he wants to play and he's also developed a fondness for handheld video games.
I was worried about all this gaming until I heard a report on the radio the other day about some research on surgeons - apparently, if you need to pick a surgeon you would be smart to pick one who grew up with a video game controller in his/her hand. In the study, they found that some of the most successful surgeons were the ones who grew up playing a lot of video games and had excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor control. So I'm thinking that maybe we can parlay this obsession into a future career?
