The painting is underway. The painters came on Tuesday and got all the walls done this week, next week they start all the trim work, doors, windows, etc. It looks soooo much better already. Hank and I have befriended the "paint boys." (That is what Hank calls them - I think they youngest one is 35). They are a nice bunch of guys, very friendly and good workers. The kitchen remodel is back on. After much price-checking and deliberation, we decided to have the painters come back in November and simply paint all the existing cabinetry white. We wanted white cabinets anyway, and since the cabinets are in excellent shape and the layout of the kitchen is good, it would just be wasteful to yank them out or even to reface them. So they will be painted white and we'll change out the hardware on them to something more subdued, rather than the ghetto gold handles that are on there now. The kitchen designer is coming out on Monday to take measurements for the new countertops and sink, so we're moving right along on that.
Mike was out of town for a couple of days this week, and Hank was going around telling everyone, "My daddy left. He's gone." I got some strange looks at swimming lessons. "He's just on a TRIP Hank, make sure to tell people he's on a TRIP," I said loudly. I can only imagine what he told the teachers at school. Mike didn't go out of town without us at all when we were in Maine so it was kind of a new situation for Hank.
Also, Hank has been making drawings of rocket ships and space ships. "See, Mommy? This is where Georgie will go. He's going to space." He has this elaborate scheme that he's sending Georgie up to space in a rocket ship that he's going to build. "Are you going on the rocket ship too?" I asked. "Nope, just Georgie. You, me, and Daddy will watch on my supercomputer." Where does he get this stuff?? Later, we were watching the boys play in the family room. Georgie kept trying to sit on Hank. "No wonder he wants to send him to space," I said.
In other news, we went to the Chancellor's Brunch at the university today - new faculty members and their families were invited to the brunch before the Homecoming game. We all had a good time - Hank ate a chocolate muffin as big as his head and had fun at the kids' table coloring. Georgie ran around trying to destroy everything- he managed to knock over the Wii they had set up. Hank and Mike headed to the game this afternoon, while Georgie and I are trying to get some stuff done around here.
